Richard He

Chineseborn Canadian pianist Richard He performed Tchaikovsky No.1 Piano concerto with Sichuan Symphony Orchestra as the opening season artist at the brand new Sichuan Grand Theatre in Chengdu, China. He participated in the Pacific Rim International Music Festival, and was presented with the Achievement Award. Several months later, he won Third Prize in the Grand Prix International Music Competition Berlin, followed by the First Prize and Special Management Prize in Amsterdam Grand Prize Virtuoso International Music Competition. He won First Prize in the 2017 Rome Grand Prize Virtuoso International Music Competition.

Richard received the Howard Hanson Scholarship from the Prestigious Eastman school of music. Since then, he has worked with renowned pianists in lessons and masterclass settings, including Richard Goode, Dang Thai Son, Jerome Lowenthal, Robert McDonald, Julian Martin, Sara Buechner, Matti Raekallio, and Ian Parker. 

Richard made his debut with Vancouver Symphony Orchestra at age of 18, since then he has frequently given solo recitals in Canada and China and been invited multiple times as a guest artist to perform at Vancouver Chinese New Year Gala and Vancouver Chinese Film Festival Award Ceremony. In 2015, Richard dazzled both audience and local press as the featured soloist with the Sichuan Conservatory of Music Symphony Orchestra in Chengdu, China, performing both Beethoven’s majestic Fifth Piano Concerto “Emperor,” and Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2. As the winner of the 2018 International Shining Star Competition, Richard made his Carnegie Hall debut with the New York Concerti Sinfonietta performing Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in the Weill Recital Hall. Richard is currently working toward a Master’s degree under the tutelage of Jeffrey Cohen at the Manhattan School of Music in New York.
