Raja Rahman

A prize-winning graduate of The Juilliard School, Canadian pianist Raja Rahman has performed worldwide with the likes of Sir Georg Solti, Valery Gergiev, and Iona Brown. Winner of several concerto competitions, Juilliard’s Vladimir Horowitz Scholarship, Artists International competition, Canadian Music Competitions, and numerous other awards, Raja’s career has taken him all over the world in concert as both soloist and chamber musician. Collaborations have included cellist Matt Haimovitz, ETHEL, and members of both the Juilliard String Quartet and the San Francisco Symphony. Mr. Rahman’s Carnegie (Weill) Hall debut took place while still at Juilliard, followed by his Lincoln Center debut (Alice Tully Hall) shortly thereafter. Solti became an ardent supporter of Raja’s after their first performance together in Germany. Raja’s major teachers have included Seymour Lipkin, Jerome Lowenthal, Lev Vlassenko and Byron Janis.

In April of 2008, he was awarded a Proclamation from the City of Las Vegas in recognition of his efforts to expand culture in his adopted hometown. Currently, Raja serves as President of Nevada School of the Arts, Las Vegas’ preeminent performing arts conservatory where he guides the training of the next generation of gifted young artists and musicians. Raja’s teaching career began at The Juilliard School’s Music Advancement Program. He also taught for two years at Indiana University while pursuing his DMA. He is regularly invited to perform and teach masterclasses across the country. Mr. Rahman has performed at Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Kneisel Hall, and other notable festivals.

Following a non-traditional career path, Mr. Rahman is the other half of Jarrett & Raja, a pianist / magician duo that has toured extensively and been featured on TV shows such as America’s Got Talent, Shark Tank, and Masters of Illusion. In 2018, Raja made his Moscow Conservatory debut. During the pandemic, Raja recorded for virtual projects with colleagues such as Music at the Mission in San Francisco and the Met Museum’s Balcony Bar series. Mr. Rahman continues regular appearances at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, UNLV’s Doc Rando Hall, and cities around the world.
